This training and learning guide will enable the trainee acquire competencies to undertake apiary attendant at Kenya National Qualification Framework (KNQF) Level 4. It provides practical and theoretical learning activities, simplified content, illustrations and self-assessment items to guide the trainee in the learning process. It also has web-links and references for further reading as well as the responses to self-assessment. The guide further provides suggested methods of training delivery for use by the trainer.
This training and learning guide has been developed with the support of GIZ’s Youth Employment in Agri-Food Sector in Western Kenya (YEA) implemented by GFA Consulting Group GmbH. The development of the Guide is in line with the functions of TVET CDACC as stipulated in Article 45 (1a) of the TVET Act No. 29 of 2013 and the Sessional Paper No. 2 of 2015 that embraces Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) system. This guide therefore intends to provide guidelines for Competency-Based training in attending an apiary at Level 4.
The Apiary Attendant Level 4 qualification consists of competencies that a person must achieve in order to manage bee biology and behavior, establish and manage an apiary, manage bee forage resources, manage honeybee swarm, manage honeybee colony, control honeybee pests and diseases, and harvest honeybee products.

This course addresses the competencies required to process beeswax. It involves preparing materials for processing bees wax, preparing processing equipment, processing bees wax and performing post processing procedures.
